Here are my favorite suggestions:
1. Hang out with friends who are not nay-sayers. In other words, spend time with positive people. Take a day off from people who complain at least once (or twice, or thrice) a week. Become the positive support for others when able (do a good turn).
2.Exercise. Yoga provides strength building, flexibility training, and relaxation. You will still need cardio. Make sure to get at least 30 minutes most days of the week.
3. Sleep enough. Seriously. You can gain weight just because you aren’t sleeping enough. Know your own sleep cycle. see if you prefer 6, 7, 8, or 9 hours. Then make sure you get that much.
4. Practice meditation daily. You can practice sitting meditation like I teach in class, or walking meditation, swimming meditation, or knitting meditation. Any repetitive task can allow the mind to relax and open to that calm space. Enjoy it! It is not indulgent, it is necessary for a healthy mind.
5. Take up a new hobby. Allot short regular periods to work rather than a single long period to work on it. In this way you can experience time building new skills on a regular basis. You’ll also have cool things to talk about with your friends!
Pose of the Day: Pascimottanansana (seated forward bend) – take care with this pose. Never take hold of feet and pull. I’ve chosen this one because the key to this pose is not what we initially think. We must relax into it rather than pushing or straining. The more you push, the more the body will fight you. Release the spine and quads. Relax and allow the process to happen naturally.
Yogic Concept of the Day: I can do more than just take a yoga class to relax. I can find resources to help me reduce stress every day.
